John Deríoga

John Deríoga’s work is characterized by patient detail and vibrant colour. He draws inspiration from nature and emotion, seeking to ignite the imagination and change perspectives. Art has been his world since day one, growing up in his Mother’s studio and gallery, and his Father’s engraving workshop. The combination of the artistic expression and precise engraving work has given rise to a style both free and controlled, walking between abstract and figurative. Art is at the core of John’s life, following serious illness it transformed into a tool of healing and therapy, now as a career. His passion for exploration and learning leads his art to constantly evolve, always searching for hidden meaning and seeking to create work that reflects this.

Falling into Abstraction
2026
Watercolour, ink on paper
29,7x42 cm

This piece reflects how my work and perspective has changed over the course of the past few months. Above the triumphal arch, a symbol of victory and completion begins to fall or be pulled by an unknown force below. Breaking apart what I previously thought to be set in stone, allowing creation and abstraction to take precedence over rigor and control. The green below represents growth and new ideas, transforming and dissolving the structure to create something new. The construction lines are also changing, from something always erased to a key part of the piece.
